The Siddur — The Jewish Prayer Book

The Siddur (סִדּוּר) is the traditional Jewish prayer book, containing a set order of daily prayers, blessings, and readings. The word 'Siddur' comes from the Hebrew root meaning 'order.' It is the central text used for the three daily prayer services — Shacharit (morning), Mincha (afternoon), and Arvit (evening) — as well as special prayers for Shabbat, holidays, and life-cycle events.

"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is One." (Deuteronomy 6:4) — The Shema, the central declaration of Jewish faith, found in every Siddur.

About the Siddur

The Siddur is used throughout all three daily prayers — Shacharit, Mincha, and Arvit — as well as for Shabbat, holidays, and special occasions.
